Getting your blood test results
Once a clinician has reviewed your test results, they are immediately viewable in your:
- NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App); or
- Patient Access account.
We recommend that all patients sign up for an NHS account (or Patient Access if they prefer) to have access to their health record, including test results.
If you are unable to use an NHS account or Patient Access, please telephone the surgery on 01531 825925 at least 2 weeks after the test was conducted and a member of staff will relay the results to you if they are available. It is best to ring after 2pm as the phone lines are less busy later in the day.
Please note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. We will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
If your test results indicate that further action is needed, we will contact you to advise you of this.
Tests requested by secondary care.
If your test was originally requested by secondary care, such as a specialist hospital consultant, we can still provide you with a copy of the results, but you will need to contact the secretary of the consultant, regarding interpreting the results of this test, and for any specialist management of your condition.
Why was a certain test performed? What do the results mean?
The clinician who reviewed your test results will always add a brief comment to them, such as indicating they are normal or what additional tests should be arranged. For further information regarding specific tests and results, we recommend Lab Tests Online UK, which contains a wealth of information for patients about the vast majority of blood tests we request.
